San Fernando became an independent parish in 1858. The current structure, called the San Isidro Labrador Parish Church, was started in 1870 but was only finished over 10 years later in 1886. Like many other Spanish period churches in Cebu, the one in San Fernando is fashioned from cut coral stones. The San Isidro Labrador Parish Church is also among the structures of Gothic design in Cebu. Gothic influences are shown in the church’s rose windows as well as in the openings that take the shape of a flamboyant arch.
* Structure’s two bell towers, made of concrete, are recent additions and do not fit with the overall original design
* Heavily renovated as well is the interior of the church

Festival
Sikoy Sikoy festival
Sikoy Sikoy festival is a festivity to celebrate God’s gift of love to the people of San Fernando. Sikoy Sikoy comes from the word “sikoy” which literally means “an act of fishing using nets deliberately done when tides are rough and sturdy”. The festival is a thanksgiving ritual and a petition prayer for guidance, protection and blessings for a bountiful harvest from the farm and from the sea.
Sikoy-Sikoy Festival is San Fernando, Cebu Mayor Lakambini “Neneth” Reluya’s response to Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia’s call to promote local festivals to show the Cebu towns’ identity and the beauty of its culture. Sikoy-Sikoy was launched in 2008. It has gotten tremendous support from the town’s major businesses. Even in its infancy stage, and despite the odds, Sikoy-Sikoy catches the attention of the people of San Fernando. It generates thousands in attendance in the streets and in the church plaza. For the second time, Sikoy-Sikoy Festival was being held on May 8. It coincides with the town’s fiesta celebration on May 6-15 of each year.
